HARRAN UNIVERSITY
STATE CONSERVATORY DEPARTMENT OF MUSIC
THE UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAM OF TRADITIONAL INSTRUMENTS: GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Harran University State Conservatory Department of Music was founded with the decisionmade by YÖK in 2011. Firstly, in 2014, students were accepted to the program of Traditional Instruments with a special talent exam in different branches such as baglama, oud, zither, ney and traditional cello. In the upcoming years, our conservatory aims to gain importance and acceleration by accepting students to the fields of ney and traditional cello apart from the departments that have already been working.
In Harran University State Conservatory Department of Music; a professor, a lecturer with a PhD, a lecturer and also a research assistant provide service in the academical field. Our conservatory which is already self-sufficient is becoming more equipped day by day in order to train our students better in every aspect.
If you take the books that were written or the activities that were made in Harran School one thousand years ago into consideration, you will notice that our conservatory has an important role to play in order to combine tradition with the future and local with the universal. Taking this into account, our main aim is to make our student well-prepared in the field of music both in local and universal senses. One of our many priorities is to do research, archive, protect and carry the music history, culture, repertoire of religious and nonreligious pieces of Urfa, which is already a conservatory by itself, into the future in a scientific manner.
Our students who graduate from Harran University State Conservatory Department of Music can be teachers on condition that they get pedagogical formation certificate, work in chorus of Ministry of Culture, TRT, The Conservatory of Municipality and private institutions, give courses or work as freelance performers.
